Courses in Italian as a second language

Lessons are held from Monday through Friday and start at 9.00 am. As a rule, Italian public holidays are observed. There is a twenty minute break after each 1 hr 50 min. lesson.

Private courses

Optimal results can be obtained from private courses tailored to the specific needs of the individual. 4 to 6 hours per day are suggested, though other solutions can be arranged.

Group Courses

Centro Linguistico Agorà offers two types of intensive coursework for groups of 3 to 6 students

Intensive
from 9:00 to 1:00
Super intensive
from 9:00 to 1:00 and from 2:00 to 4:00

Other arrangements can be made for pre-existing groups.

Italian Courses for Minors

Italian language courses for groups of young people under 18 years of age will be offered on our July starting dates. Groups comprise from 4 to 8 people and lessons are held from 9.00am to 1.00pm Monday through Friday.

  • Minors must stay with a local family.
  • A member of CLA staff will be present to assist students on arrival and departure.
  • Students will only be allowed to leave Livorno during the weekend with written permission from a parent.
  • Evening outings are permitted if accompanied by a member of the host family or school staff.
  • Families are liable for any medical costs incurred by the students.

Please, give advance notice of any special requirements or medical conditions and cures (diet, medicines taken, etc.).

Course Level, Duration and Objectives

Individual abilities are assessed by a written placement exam and interview for the purpose of group formation. Courses are consecutive. No previous knowledge of Italian is necessary for the elementary level. Each level entails from 40 to 80 hours of study.

Elementary
Acquisition and correct use of elementary structures, communication at a basic level.
Threshold
Mastery of the structures of the language, an introduction to specialised terminology, the ability to read newspaper articles or literary excerpts, the ability to communicate in everyday situations.
Professional
Subtleties of the Italian language, literary vocabulary, shades of meaning and idioms needed to read books, newspapers, magazines etc., and to function without problems in Italy.

Leisure-time

Centro Linguistico Agorà will help you organise your leisure time to suit your personal tastes.
